The Armor of God - Part 1. The first lesson of the study talks about how the Christian should have the strentgh of God before he puts on the Armor of God. If you participate in the battle with your own strength you will fail. In this battle you are asked to stand. Your not fighting for victory because the Lord has already won! Listen to the first lesson in this series.
The Armor of God - Part 2. The second lesson in this series talks about why we are to put on the Armor of God... "beware of the wiles of the Devil." Ephesians 6:11 says "11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." Listen to the lesson to learn more.
Derek McCammon gave a special 4th of July message on July 2nd. His lesson celebrated America’s 224th birthday and asks the question “Is America growing closer or farther to God?” Listen to his lesson on 07-02 and hear what the scriptures say.
The Armor of God - Part 5. The lesson on 07-16 covers the scripture in 1 Tim 2:3-4 (KJV) says “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” Not only does God want all men to be saved, He also wants them to come to the knowledge of the truth. The Armor of God - Part 6. The Sunday lesson on 07-23 continues the study on the armor of God found in Ephesians 6:10-17. The emphasis this week is on the Breastplate of Righteousness. As Philippians 3:9 says “And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith”. Listen to this lesson here!
The Armor of God - Part 7. The Sunday lesson of the week on 07-30 zero’s in on the third piece in the armour of God - “having your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace”. This lesson also gives a good example of using right division by identifying all the different gospel’s in scripture and encourages you to find out which one’s apply today. How many gospel’s are there? Listen now to find out!
The Armor of God - Part 8. The Sunday Sermon on 08-20 returns to the study in Ephesians 6:10-17 regarding the whole Armour of God. This lesson covers “the shield of faith” which is the subject in Eph 6:16... “above all put on the shield of faith so you may be able to quinch the fiery darts of the devil!” Click here to listen now.
The Armor of God - Part 9. You need a personal savior! The Sunday lesson on 08-27 covers the helmet of salvation found in Ephesians 6:17. (KJV) “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”:
The Armor of God - Part 10. The Sword of The Spirit - The Sunday Sermon on 09-03 covers the second part of Ephesians 6:17 ... and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. The effectual word of God. Often the common person doesn’t even understand the simple word of God. How about the effectual word of God? What is the effectual word of God? Click here to find out now.
The Armor of God - Part 11. Prayer - The Sunday lesson on 09-10 teaches on one of the Christian’s greatest responsibilities - Prayer! Do you pray always? When should you pray? Ephesians 6:18-20 says something about this and more. Click here to listen to a lesson about prayer and how important it is in your fellowship with Christ.
The Armor of God - Part 12 (final). Sept 17th celebrated US Constitution Day! The Sunday lesson of the week on 09-17 finishes a long series in Ephesians. Also mentioned is the celebration of Constitution Day and how it relates to Ephesians. As chapters 1-3 are doctrinal and 4-6 are practial to the Christian so is The Declaration of Independence to the Constitution of the United States. Wonder how? Listen here now! Or click here to listen to the entire lesson.
The lesson on 10-22 starts a new series on Right Division. Derek McCammon opens the series exploring the need for handling the word of God, rightly divided. If you are new to Right Division. Be sure and follow this series here or on the Right Division audio page. You should also visit the Right Division home page for more studies on the subject.
The lesson on 11-05 is the second lesson in a series on Right Division. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart... and He shall direct thy path.” This familiar passage in Proverbs 3:5-6 sums up the principle of right division in “direct thy path”. The principles of handling the Word of God accurately are necessary so we don’t rob the Word of it’s truth. All scripture is for us but not all scripture is to us... Want to learn more? Click here to listen now.
The lesson of the week on 11-12 is the third in a series on Right Division expressed in 2 Tim 2:15 Man proposes but God disposes. In light of whatever happens in our walk... do we stop and priase God for what he has done? Our responsibility as a Christian is to remember the blessings we have from God each and every day. Listen here for encouragement..
The holiday season is here and the lesson on 11-19 continues the series on Right Division with the fourth lesson. However, this week the message challanges you to consider how thankful you are in your day to day walk with God. Is thankfulness a once a year exercise or should it be more? Click here to listen to the lesson on 11-19.
The audio lesson on 11-26 continues the series on Right Division while covering Old Testament chronology. The lesson demonstrates how God is in control no matter who is in power. In light of the confusion with the American Presidential election... it’s nice to be reminded that God is in control. The lesson shows how God will accomplish His will no matter what political rulers are in place. Another component of this lesson introduces several of the “Days” in scripture... Man’s Day and the Day of Christ. Click here now to listen to this timely lesson.
The lesson on 12-24 Christmas Eve encourages you to consider what gifts you give at Christmas. Do you get caught up in the commercialism of the season or the gift of eternal life? Is it chaotic with false feelings of joy or the joy of a Christian celebrating eternal life? In Adam, we have received the gift of sin and therefore death. God’s gift to sinners is His Son, Christ Jesus, where we receive eternal life. Click here to listen to the lesson of the week
The lesson on 12-10 begins with a scripture reading in Luke 1:26-31. How do you handle the issues of life? Christ Jesus was born in this world to die that we might live... therefore, do you fly your Christian flag this time of year and spread the good news?As challenges appear in your life do you ignore them, convince yourself what isn’t... is, or walk in your own might? Listen here to the lesson of the week or check out the audio lessons in December.
What should be the message at Christmas? Shop ‘til you drop? The lesson on 12-17 touches on three important activities you should have as we celebrate the birth of Christ Jesus. Instead of materialistic activities, you should practice putting your Faith in God, your Focus on God, and your Fellowship with God. Listen here to the audio lesson of the week.
What is The Issue? The audio lesson on 01-07 asks the question “What Is The Issue?” We all deal with several types of issues: Personal, Social, Political, and Spiritual. Do you spend your time wondering what to wear, or what’s in style? How about were to live or work? Whether or not to be conservative or liberal? But in the end, what really matters are the issues of life... and these come out of your heart. Click here to listen now for encouragement to open your heart to the Word of God. You can also go to the audio room for past Sunday lessons.
Guard Your Heart. The Audio lesson on 01-14 continues from last weeks topic “The Issues of Life”. This week however focuses on the personal aspect of your heart and who you find yourself serving the most. There are many stuggles in life... but when all is said and done... there really is only one stuggle... and it’s about who is the master of your life. Who is your master? Your heart responds to your master and it should be filled with integrity and uprightness. Click here to listen now
The Heart of God. Last week’s lesson discussed the heart of man... the personal heart. The lesson on 01-21 explores the scriptures to discover the heart of God. God has a heart and His heart is perfect. Our hearts however are sinful. The same was true for the nation of Israel. Their national heart was not set on God and they paid the price for it. As it is written ”For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.” Ps 78:37 (KJV). Click here to listen to the lesson of the week.
Acts Period Epistles - Part 1. An Understanding Heart. The lesson on 02-04 discusses the idea of having an understanding heart. God shows us in scripture that the Nation of Israel had one but lost it when Nebuchadnezzar conquered them. At that time God's glory left the temple and did not return until Jesus Christ came to Israel as King. Then, when Israel as a nation was presented the King as well as the Kingdom, they rejected them, showing Israel did not have an understanding heart. Today God has given us a calling with the administration of The Mystery.
Acts Period Epistles - Part 2. Acts Period Chronology. The lesson on 02-18 continues the study presented on 02-04 and covers the chronology of the New Testament books written during the Acts Period. God's given us objective truth in the bible... it's what the bible says... Subjective truth is what you believe the bible says... and it's what you do with it. Click here to listen to the lesson of the week.
Acts Period Epistles - Part 3. Why has Everyone Gone APE? The lesson on 02-25 asks the question “Why has everyone gone APE?” The Acts Period Epistles cover God's revealed plan to Israel. Today, they appeal to those who search for a supernatual solution to their problems vs. a walk of faith in an age of grace. Man continues to search for utopia while evil people prosper. Often we might find ourselves lusting after their success or power. Perhaps this is another reason why doctrine from the Acts Period is so appealing.
Acts Period Epistles - Part 4. Acts Period Epistles - Why has everyone has gone APE? The lesson on 03-04 continues to discuss those who claim for themselves doctrine that was intended for Apostles sent to Israel. Following Acts Period doctrine leads to frustration and failure because it belongs to another period and another calling. Today, the Apostle Paul provides christians a pattern for fellowship. In Acts, it was James, Peter, John, and others who taught the law unto Israel while Paul was sent to the gentiles teaching grace.
Acts Period Epistles - Part 5. Understanding Acts . Some of the maintenence that goes into driving a car is easy and we do it often... like cleaning our windows, filling up with gas, or changing the oil every 3000 miles. As Christians, there are some things that are basic and fundamental to maintaining a proper relationship with the Lord... like praying, fellowship, and studying the Bible. However, some maintenance may be needed or even neglected... like changing the spark plugs in your car. These fire the engine and get you on the road to where you're going.
Acts Period Epistles - Part 6. The lesson on 03-25 finishes the series covering the Acts Period Epistles by showing the connection between Galatians and Acts. We know that all scripture is for us but not all scripture is to us. So the goal of understanding the Acts period is to understand what epistles were written during this time period so we may keep what is taught in its context. If you take verses, chapters, or even books of scripture out of context you create a pre-text which leads to error when interpreting Gods word. Click here now to listen to the lesson of the week.
Palm Sunday. The lesson on 04-08 begins the celebration of Easter beginning with Palm Sunday. In Christ's preparation during the week, He held the last supper with his disciples, and at that table was a cup. The cup represented His blood which was to be shed at the cross. His blood was more than just blood... it is God's blood because Jesus was more than just a man, He is the God man and the mediator of all men as the only way of salvation. After the last supper, Jesus retired to a garden with a few of his disciples and prayed to the Father.
Spiritual Chess. The lesson on 04-15 celebrates a risen Savior! The resurrection is the difference between a false hope and eternal life. If human history were likened unto a chess game, there is a clear match going on between God and Lucifer. This “cosmic chess match” is the struggle between good and evil but although the game is still being played, there are very few moves left for Satan before he is defeated for eternity because God has played the ultimate move with Christ Jesus and His resurrection!
Mother’s Day. The lesson on 05-13 celebrates Mother’s Day in America. Being a Mom is a special calling and they are often a source of comfort and encouragement. From the beginning in Genesis, the man and woman were to cleave to each other and become one flesh. The wife then was given another critcal role with motherhood. It’s the mother that establishes the home and we learn from the scriptures that she is a crown to her husband and their household. Click here to listen to the lesson honoring Mother’s.
The lesson on 05-20 discusses "that gospel" which Paul identifies in Galatians 2:1-2. This gospel is one of 15 gospels mentioned in scripture. Paul wrote 14 books in the New Testament and 7 of them were delivered during the Acts Period. Galatians was one of those books and provides us with the key to understand the context of "that gospel" which was foretold in Deuteronomy 32:21 and confirmed in Romans 11:11. This "gospel" is that the gentiles would be able to receive the salvation message in order to provoke Israel to jealousy. Click here to listen to the lesson for 05-20.
The lesson on 05-27 continues to study what Paul calls “ My Gospel” as mentioned in Romans 16:25-27. What was Paul trying to convey? There are 15 “gospels” in scripture and it’s very important to apply the principles of right division and to understand what “My Gospel” entails. The lesson also celebrates the holiday of Memorial Day in America, which honors those who gave their lives during wartime for the freedoms we enjoy today. Click here to listen now.
The Obedience of Faith. What was the Apostle Paul saying in Romans 16:26 that "is now made manifest ... for the obedience of faith"? Israel was given the responsibility of evangelizing the nations because of their potential "peculiar treasure" status. However, their stubbornness fulfilled a prophecy from Deut 32:21 in the song of Moses... that God was going to use the nations to provoke Israel to jealousy. If Israel were to follow Christ, the nations would take hold of the skirt of a Jew because they would know that God was with them.
Keeping Covenants in Context (during the Acts period). Acts 13:46 says "It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you (Israel)..." This is the thrust of the book of Acts. When the Apostle Paul said this he continues with "seeing you (Israel) put it from you... we turn to the Gentiles." Some see this passage in Acts 13 as a dispensational change but it was not. When God sent Paul to the Gentiles, it wasn't until Acts 28:28 that salvation was sent (authorized) unto the Gentiles. Acts 13:46 is part of Old Testament prophecy and wasn’t anything new.
The Middle Wall of Partition. The lesson on 06-24 starts with Acts 15:12,13,19, 20. It’s here the dispute was being made between the Jewish belivers and new Gentile belivers on what parts of the law they should keep. They had a real problem on their hands because there was a wall separating these believers - both literally and figuratively. Was Christ here to divide or unite? He testified that He would cause division among many people... this division was always between the non-believier and the believer.
Content & Context. Two very important principles that are required for the right division of scripture. These two disciplines help put the pieces together for interpreting the events of Acts 16:1-5. The Apostle Paul circumcises Timothy yet earlier in Acts it was discussed that circumcision was not required for the gentile converts. The gentiles had four decrees to follow and circumcision was not one of them yet Paul performs the circumcision. Why? The lesson on 07-01 studies this event and provides the proper content within the right context to show why Paul circumcised Timothy.
Freedom in Christ. July 4th was the celebration of Independence day in America honoring the 225th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence declaring freedom from England. Just as this day was set aside to celebrate America’s national freedoms, the Christian should set aside time to recognize the freedom we have in Christ Jesus. The lesson on 07-08 teaches from Acts 16:6-10. The book of Acts is as much about the Acts of the Holy Spirit as it is the Acts of the Apostles. What are the differences between the activity of the Holy Spirit in Acts compared to today?
The Sovereignty of God and the Free Will of Man . The decision in Acts 16:5-10 to go west with the Word of God is the very beginning of how the western civilization has been blessed with the truth that is in Christ Jesus. There are really only two religions in the word... Hinduism and it's off springs, and the Judeo/Christian faith in it's various denominations. The lesson on 07-22 teaches on the Sovereignty of God and the Free will of Man when looking at Acts 16:14 with a woman named Lydia. It says "who's heart the Lord opened...".
The Jailor’s Problem. In Acts 16:23-34, the Phillipian Jailor had a problem on his hand. He was charged with keeping Paul and Silas in jail or it would be his life. When he awoke, the jail had been opened from an earthquake caused by God yet Paul and Silas were still there singing praises unto the Lord. The first problem the jailor thought he had was the whereabouts of his prisoners...
Reasoning out of the Scriptures. The reasoning facilities that you have are only as good as what you put into it. If you base your reasoning on others, which is what you do as a child, then your reasoning is what others have. If you base your reasoning on your own experiences, then it’s only as good as what experiences you have had in your life. If you put it in your own thought processes, then it’s subject to change from day to day. There is only one true absolute place to base your reasoning on and that is the Word of God.
Idolatry. In every generation, there is a cultural or spiritual "fad" of the day. It’s usually present when large groups follow trendy behavior. "Fad's" not only occur in society but in religion as well. When "popularity" takes precedence over your own personal Bible study and knowledge of scripture, then you're at risk of being caught up in the "fad" of the day. When Paul was in Athens, he witnessed trendy religious worship to idols... even to one idol set aside to the “unknown God”.
Stand Up For God’s Word. The Apostle Paul was not a very politically correct person for wherever he went, his message cut most everyone to the heart and they usually ran him out of town or threw him in jail. Why all the fuss? Paul was standing up for the Word of God. When you stick to the scriptures and abide with the truth, the world will always have a problem with it and your popularity will suffer. In Athens, the teaching of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle had their intellectual hold on the people around Mars Hill.
Preach The Word. A Tentmaker preaches the Word. A Jewish father primarily focused on three things for his son as he raised him to be a proper Jew: 1) Circumcision, 2) The Law, and 3) a Trade. We know of Paul’s reputation for Circumcision and keeping the Law... and we see in Acts 18 his trade was that of a tentmaker. Because of his trade, Paul met up with Priscilla and Aquilla who received the Word from Paul as he testified about Christ out of the scriptures. No matter where your work takes you, there will always be an opportunity to share the scriptures and preach Christ.
Attack on America. On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijaked passenger jets and used them as missles by flying them into the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, DC. In the wake of this awful tragedy and act of war, America has called for prayer for the families and victims of this attack. Even though America has been quick to “pray to God”, there has been a distinct lack of specific reference to the one true source of peace... Christ Jesus .
Dating Paul's Books. There are two ways to identify when Paul wrote his letters in the New Testament during the Acts Period. First, when there are historical events mentioned in Acts or one of His 14 epistles. The event in history then provides a time marker for when the book was written. The second way is by the subject matter itself. These two methods allow you to put Paul’s books in order and thereby understand the progressive callings that Paul was responsible for communicating to Israel and Gentiles. We are called to learn the scriptures so we can compare the things that differ.
Acts Period timing of the Corinthian Letters. Paul’s missionary journeys provide us a chronological road map to much of the Acts Period epistles. Paul was used by God to write 14 of the New Testament books. The first seven were written during the Acts Period, while the last seven (Eph , Phil, Col, 1 & 2 Tim, Titus, & Philemon) were written after Acts. 1 & 2 Corinthians were part of the first seven. Understanding when books of the Bible are written is very important for the proper interpretation of scripture and an important principle for right division.
The Last Days. Why is modern day society focused on calling here and now the “Last Days”? Christian teaching is focused on mapping recent terrorist tragedies into Biblical events that indicate the “Last Days”. It’s interesting to note that throughout history, many catastrophic events were associated with “Last Days” enthusiasm. The majority of Christian ministries are always trying to figure out the “Last Times” which includes end times events like the rapture, the tribulation, the millenium. Just like the Apostles who asked the questions: When shall these things be?
Which Last Days? There are many “days” mentioned in scripture. It takes a workman to study and sort each reference and determine what applies to whom and when. The “Last Days” are mentioned in several passages, Genesis 49:1-2 being the first. As you will find, there are two primary sets of “Last Days”. The references in 1 & 2 Timothy apply to us today as members of the Body of Christ which is the church. All other references to The “Last Days” pertain to Israel and the restoration of their Nation.
Last Days - Part 3. The lesson on 11-04-2001 is part 3 of a series on the “End Times” Many are asking questions whether or not it’s the “End Times”. The same sentiment was expressed over 2000 years ago when the Apostles asked Christ the question... “And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Matt 24:3 (KJV).
End Times - Part 4. The lesson on 11-11-2001 continues with Part 4 of the end-times mini-series on the “Last Days” click here to review all the lessons). As you study this topic in scripture, it’s important to understand the context of “end times” or “last days” that are referenced in books that were written during the Acts Period. It’s apparent that Peter, John, Jude, and James who wrote their epistles during the Acts period, had expectations that the last days were emminent and ready to begin right then.
The Plan of Redemption - God has a plan and purpose for the Ages. He has revealed this plan to us in His Word. As it's stated in 2 Tim 1:9 (KJV), "Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,". The lesson on 11-18-2001 completes two series of studies. First, it ends the series of lessons that pertain to the timing of the New Testament books written during the Acts Period. This lesson also concludes the mini-series on the "Last Days" as Part 5.
The Four Days in Scripture. The lesson on 11-25-2001 provides one more recap of the study series on the “Last Days” with an emphasis on clarifying the differences between the “Day of Christ” and the “Day of the Lord”. There are four pre-emminent “Days” in scripture. Presently we live in the “Day of Man” which is ends when Elijah returns and ushers in the “Day of Christ” which precedes the “Day of the Lord” (to review the four days in scripture, click here). The length of the “Day of Christ” is the time that leads up to the Day of the Lord.
The Names of God. “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
Love and Hope. The lesson on 12-30-2001 reminds us of our blessings as we go into 2002. Primarily, the lesson reminds us of the Love and Hope that is in Christ Jesus. There are many situations in life where people give up and lose hope. However, in Christ, we have an abundance of love and hope that is always there for us. How? According to Philippians 1:8-11 (KJV) ”For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.
Paul's Two Gospels. The history of the Apostle Paul during his ministry is important to understand to rightly divide the scriptures. The lesson on 01-06-2002 teaches on Philippians 1:12-18 and compares it with the gospel that Paul preached in Galatians. Most christians assume “Gospel” means the same thing when ever its mentioned throughout the bible. The word gospel actually means “good news” and there are many different gospels in the scriptures. Consequently, there are two primary questions to ask when reading the “gospel”.
Rightly Dividing. Christians who randomly read the bible and apply whatever they have read are destined to take truth out of context. God, however, has called us to practice right division so we may learn what applies to whom. In order to do this, Christian’s need to learn which truth’s are eternal vs. truth’s that are dispensational. This is done by studying the bible and comparing the things that differ (see the Internal Laws of Sripture for more info).
The Gospel of Christ. There is an idea that if you come with a full bucket, you won’t be able to add any more water. In Philippians 1:27 (KJV), Paul states “Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;” Does your conversation or conduct demonstrate your confidence in the gospel of Christ?
Why is it that unity can only be achieved by division ? As God created different administrations to deal with man, He demonstrated how he gave mankind specific callings to keep. It started with Adam who was given the responsiblity to keep the garden. As it turns out, Adam did not keep it and the result was the fall... and sin... and death. Other administrations came along and in every dispensation, man was given something to keep. Today, we’re in the administration of The Mystery, and in this calling we are to keep our conversation, conduct, and walk worthy of the Gospel of Christ.
The Mind of Christ. The Christians ultimate weapon to tackle all the issues of life is contained in the mind of Christ. God has provided us a way to deal with the issues of life yet do we take advantage of it? “Let this mind be in you...” This is the key to every issue we face. Philippians 2:1-4 identifies the mindset with four motives for Christian living that have corresponding duties in the walk that is worthy of God: 1) Consolation... be like minded, 2) Comfort of love... having the same love, 3) Fellowship of the spirit...
Work Out Your Own Salvation. How do we as sinful beings work out our own salvation? Philippians 2:12,13 speaks of working out... not working for salvation, which speaks of our christian walk. After you accept Christ, you have the responsibility to work out every challenge that comes your way by relying upon Christ and His word. This is accomplished by putting on The Mind of Christ. Christian service requires a walk that is obedient vs. ceremonial or religious. As Proverbs 21:2,3 (KJV) says,”Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.
His way, and not my way . Paul gives us an example of how we should live our lives in Philippians. Remember, we’ve been given the ultimate weapon with the Mind of Christ to overcome every attack of the mind that Satan brings. If you’re standing on the Lord’s side, there is a battle going on with Satan to move you off track. Further, the old nature you have in the flesh is constantly at battle with the new nature. The comfort and joy we are to experience as believers comes from putting our trust in Christ.
Righteousness from Christ. The power of God is different from the mercy of God. Many people may be drawn to God by his demonstration of power but it’s the grace and mercy of God that should grab your attention. As Paul demonstrated, he said he was in the best position to brag on his credentials as declared in Phil 3:4-7 “Though I might also have confidence in the flesh.
There is a joy that is set before us. This week we celebrate Palm Sunday and the triumphant entrance of Christ into Jerusalem the week before his crucifixion. The cross is very important to the believer. Everything Jesus does during this week fulfills the scriptures as He became sin for us.
Let’s be honest. Who knew Christ better than the Apostle Paul? Yet, why does Paul in Philippians 3:10 say “That I may know Him...”? Look at the 14 New Testament books God used Paul to write which include Hebrews, Romans, and Galatians. These books demonstrate a very deep understanding by Paul of the salvation that is in Christ. Paul knew Christ better than anyone for he knew Him for over 30 years. So then what was Paul referring to in Philippians 3:10?
Salvation vs. Inheritance. Paul often talked about exchanging things of the flesh for Christ’s righteousness. This was a common theme in the previous dispensation as demonstrated in Matt 16:24-27 (KJV) ”Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” When comparing salvation with inheritance, it’s very important to understand that both are seperate topics and have different requirements. Our works has nothing to do with salvation yet works has everything to do with inheritance.
Stand fast in the Lord. Paul gives us a challenge to stand fast. There are two ways to stand, either stand you own way, or stand God’s way. It’s not automatic when you become saved. Standing in the Lord has got to be a relection of what God has given you to stand with. For example, Cain and Abel both took a stand, however, one was acceptable unto God and one was not. Our conduct or behavior is what precedes our stand. As we take a stand, we are to do so with one spirit, one mind, and one calling that God has set before us.
Think on these things. Philippians 4:8-13 gives us very important insights into applying the mind of Christ in our lives. The most important event in anyones life is that of salvation in Christ. Next, it’s up to the Christian to learn what truth has been given to us today. Finally, we are instructed to “think on these things”. The mind is the place where we battle Satan for every thought that comes forth. As we wage war with him, sin continues to be Satan’s ally as it wrestles for control over our thoughts to be filled with anything but Christ.
“Every wise woman builds her house.” We learn so much from mothers. Someone once said that they learned religion from their mom when she said “You better pray that this comes out of the carpet!” The wise mother knows that Betty Crocker is a cookbook for the kitchen but the bible is the cookbook for the soul. A child first receives wisdom from their parents. As Proverbs 4:1-3 (KJV) states “Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
Memorial Day 2002. usually conjurs up thoughts of swimming and a nice three day weekend to kick off the summer. Most pools open on Memorial Day for the summer so everyone is excited to break out their new swimsuits and dive in. Polls indicate most Americans treat this day as just another day off. Another poll found that only 28% of the people who were asked knew the real meaning of Memorial Day. Everyone should take time to remember those who have died for our country and the freedoms we share... even the pool opening for the summer.
The Principles of Giving. God loves a cheerful giver. There is an important distinction between giving and tithing.Tithing is not giving and giving is not tithing. Tithing was a tax imposed on Israel to support the priestly structure among the twelve tribes. In the Old Testament, we learn of three tithes that were established. Numbers 18:21 tells us of a National Tax that was used to care for the Levites. Deuteronomy 14:22 identifies a Feast Tax which was used to help feed everyone. Finally, a Priest and Poor Tax is given in Deuteronomy 14:28 which occured every three years.
God Supplies Your Needs. The lesson on 06-09-2002 comes to the end of Philippians and provides a review of the high points discussed throughout the letter. In Phil 4:19 (KJV) “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” First, we find confidence in He who hath begun a good work in us will perform it... and supply all your needs along the way for His purposes. We often equate needs to wants. However, the needs we have a members of the Body of Christ, consists of the items that are needed to accomplish His purpose and not ours.
Living a Power Filled Life. The lesson on 06-16-2002 celebrates Father’s Day in America. For this message, the scripture reading covered Luke 15:11-13. Living a power filled life from a Christian perspective recognizes that true power is not worldly. Worldly success is vain and never satisfies. Consider the man who has six million dollars to the man that has six children. The millionare wants more yet the man with six kids is satisfied! But seriously, riches, strength, and glory are things we should not pursue.
Unfeigned Faith. Paul when writing was writing to Timothy in 2 Tim 1:5-7 (KJV) he says “When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” It is very apparent that Paul appreciates the genuine faith he sees in Timothy.
America’s Founders and Nature’s God. The Declaration of Independence of the United States of America acknowledges faith towards a supreme God who created mankind. The Declaration also acknowledges by all who signed it, the laws of God, the providence of God, and the judgment of God. The Declaration also appeals to God as the Supreme Judge of the world for their intentions. Furthermore, for the support of this Declaration, the signers relied firmly on the protection of Divine Providence. The Lesson on 07-07-2002 teaches on the connection between scripture and our founding documents.
Hold the form of sound words. This is the admonition Paul gave to Timothy in the last book of the bible, chronologically speaking. 2 Timothy 1:13 (KJV) says “Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.” It is customary that the last orders given supercedes all previous orders. One might say this holds true for handling the word of God accurately. If you don’t know the difference between the canon of scripture and the chronology of the bible, please study more about the differences here.
Be Strong in the Grace. 2nd Timothy is the last book that Paul wrote of the 14 he contributed to the New Testament. Not only is it the last book, but it contains the last charge to Timothy and us. Since the close of 2nd Timothy, God has been silent and no more has been given. Are you ever challenged to live the Christian life? Paul has given us in 2nd Timothy the recipe for living the proper Christian life . Satan is constantly at war with God and he continues to try and make us casualties of the war. Yet God gives us a challenge to be strong in the grace that has been given.
Faithful Sayings. There are times in your life where you’re in the valley and not on the mountain top. Trouble that occurs in our lives is part of the challenge that comes with living. If you want to be victorious when trouble occurs, Paul tells us how with his admonition to Timothy to be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. This comes from 2 Timothy 2:1 (KJV) ”Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.” If we are crucified with Christ then it’s Christ that lives in us. This is one of the five “faithful sayings” found in the prison epistles.
Study. Studying the word of God, rightly divided, is the key to understanding the dispensational differences between callings. Right Division is the instruction to Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” The word “study” implies a serious commitment and obligation on behalf of the saint to take time and learn the scriptures.
Right Division. There are two importants aspects of Right Division. First, Right Division is the only way to properly learn about the dispensations in scripture. Second, Right Division is essential for the proper interpretation of callings and inheritances in scripture. By rightly dividing the word of truth, we learn in 2 Timothy 2:16 that we are able to shun profane and vain babblings. This is what you get when you take scripture out of it’s context and end up wrongly dividing the word. Christians today should avoid high octane fleshly worship and pursue daily bible study.
Dispensations - Part 1. Understanding dispensational differences is like chewing on a big piece of steak. It’s not for the baby in scripture. 2 Timothy 2:15 encourages study so you can be approved unto God with accurate handling of scripture. By comparing scripture with scripture, you start to learn of the different dispensations in scripture. Dispensations refer to the subdivision of the ages and the revealed will of God that is made known in each age. It also involves individuals who have been given the duties of administration for that time frame.
Dispensations - Part 2. As human beings, we have the capacity to ask questions the animal or vegetable kingdom cannot. Questions like “Where did I come from?”, “Why am I here?”, or “Where am I going?”. God has given us these answers and we can easily find them in the Bible. We were created in His image, to serve and glorify God. One day we will appear with Him in a place He has prepared for us. At this point, God has a question for you which is “What are you doing with my work I’ve given you and called you to do?”.
Dispensations - Part 3. 2 Timothy 2:15 is the verse that acts as the key to understanding all of scripture. In this verse, we learn of “rightly dividing the word of truth”. Right Division means to cut up scripture and partition it with the appropriate administration of God. It doesn’t mean to cut scripture out as we learn from 2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is profitable”. The key is to read and study scripture so you can keep scripture in it’s context. Hebrews 11:1 tells us that God speaks in different times, in various ways, through different messengers, and with specific messages.
Dispensations Part 4 - The Mystery. Zechariah 9:9-10 is another passage that demonstrates how there are gaps in time in certain verses. Usually, it’s where the first statement made has been or is being fulfilled at the time of the writing (Zech 9:9), while the latter part is a future event that sometimes takes hundreds or thousands of years to fulfil (Zech 9:10). In some cases, scripture that has yet to be fulfilled and falls into the realm of prophecy yet to happen.
Dispensations - Part 5. Right Division is crucial to understanding scripture and the different administrations (or dispensations) of God. The lesson on 10-13-2002 continues with a series of lessons studying the seven primary dispensations in scripture and begins to describe the last three dispensations that follow the Mystery (The Mystery is the fourth dispensation period and is our present Age of Grace).
Dispensations - Part 6. Most Christians may know that there are 66 books in the bible with 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New. We have learned that all of those books are for our learning but all of it is not to us. The problem we find with christianity today is that most of christiandom teaches that all of scripture (or a large part of it) is to us and treat it like a combination salad. The seven primary dispensations are characterized by 1) a subdivision of the ages; 2) God’s revealed message, and 3) God’s ordained messenger (Hebrews 1:1-2a).
Shun Vain and Profane Babblings. Paul takes the time to tell christians what how their walk should demonstrate godliness.. With this wisdom, we find one of the guidelines involves avoiding pofanity and things that are sacriligous and offensive to God. This specifically includes profane people because they lead to ungodliness. God knows that it doesn’t take much to corrupt those that are good. We’re not instructed to keep bad company because ungodly people lead to profane behavior usually because profane people keep bad company.
Strive Not. The aim of the enemy, according to2 Timothy 2:16, is to subvert the hearer and snare the believer. Yet God gives the Christian good instructions on how to deal with it as believers in Christ. The workman that is not ashamed has studied the scripture and practices right division. Paul also encourages Timothy to commit certain “things” to faithful men who shall be able to teach others also. What things? Don’t be ashamed of Paul’s specific ministry called “the mystery”. Further, be strong in the grace that is in Christ and recognize the completeness we have in Him.
The Last Season. Since the terrorist attack on September 11th in America, most Christians are claiming that we are in the Last Days. However students of scripture should pause and ask “which last days are we in?” There are several “Last Days” in scripture and it’s important to understand which one you’re talking about. It’s true that the things that have been happening over the last 50 years make us think it’s the last “season”. The last days that Paul identifies in 2 Tim 3:1-2 are those that conclude this dispensation and the Day of Man.
Make Full Proof of Thy Ministry. The last letter Paul wrote was 2 Timothy for soon after he was beheaded according to church history. In the end, Paul declares he fought a good fight, and kept the faith, hence thre was a crown of righteousness that Paul would receive in the heavenly kingdom.
Do You Believe in Christmas? What is Christmas and what does it mean to you? For those of us who are Christians, it means more than the lights, the shopping, or wrapped presents under the tree. If it were, then the spirit of man really yearns for something more than that and is so empty. All the answers the world has to give will never satisfy the yearning heart. There is only one answer that will, and that is Christ. Christians know that every day is Christmas because God has given us the gift of His dear Son.
The Rules for Success. Most of us like to have success. We often make goals in the new year to achieve new levels of prosperity and success. Yet if we if spend our energy trying to find the secret of worldly success, we miss what God has prepared in His rules for success. Psalms 1 (KJV) begins with ”Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” God blesses those who follow His word.
Resurrection - Part 1. Paul said it best, if we have hope only in this world, we are all most miserable (1 Cor 15:19). When the Sadducees approached Jesus in Mark 12:18-27, they put forth a question about “resurrection”. It was clearly stated that the Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection so their question was attempting to make Christ stumble. His response to them not only validated a resurrection, but emphasized an important point... they were in error from not knowing the scriptures.
The Resurrection - Part 2. The resurrection is so critical to the believer. By one man sin entered the world, and death by sin. Yet the second Adam, Christ, is alive and resides in heaven as the one mediator between God and man. In the Old Testament, Job had hope of a resurrection. Abraham is another individual who trusted in the power of God to raise the dead.
The Resurrection - Part 3. Historically, their have been many theories about the resurrection. Although there has been agreement to call the resurrection of believers the “Rapture”, two major questions still cause serious debates: 1) When does it occur? and 2) Who does it involve? The timeframe for the resurrection revolves around the Day of the Lord, which includes both the tribulation and the millennium. While attempting to pinpoint the “when”, there have been several views that have come in and out of popularity.
Resurrection - Part 4. Within the Pre-Millenial view, there are three “rapture” timing theories. This consists of a pre-trib, mid-trib, and post-tribulation rapture. The most popular position for the placement of the rapture is the Pre-Tribulation view, however, this view has the least scriptural support. The Pre-Tribulation believers are looking for the eminent return of Christ. The Mid -Tribulation view raptures the believers 3.5 years into the tribulation (half way through he seven year tribulation).
Resurrection - Part 5. What does our resurrection body look like? The Corinthians were skeptics as was explained in 1 Corinthians 15:35 (KJV) “But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?” These skeptics have a hard time accepting the resurrection as demonstrated in 1 Corinthians 15:12 (KJV) “Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?” Paul was dealing with worldly intellectuals who were having a problem dealing with this truth.
Resurrection - Part 6. There are two types of people in this world: “Saints, and Aints”. In Philippians 3:7-14, the apostle Paul is addressing the Saints when discussing the status of “perfect”. We know that no one is perfect for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Yet “Saints” are perfected by Christ in salvation and are complete in Him (Colossians 2:10). The pursuit of “being perfect” is the race of Saints in the pursuit of the calling of God. Life in the Christian realm is a race for inheritance. The reward for the winning the race are crowns.
Resurrection - Part 7 . Only on half of one verse in scripture does God give to the atheist. In Psalm 14:1 (KJV) “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God...” The fool doesn’t believe there will be a resurrection yet we know that the blessed hope of the resurrection will happen to everyone. Why? Judgment for everyone will be judged of God.
Resurrection - Part 8. It’s our responsibility as Christians to approach scripture and determine how it should apply in our lives. The resurrection is one of the key topics that we should study. For example, Martha in John 11:23-24 (KJV) demonstrated her understanding of a resurrection when talking about her brother Lazarus “Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” As Martha demonstrates, it was widely known among the believers that there is a resurrection of the dead.
Resurrection - Part 9. In scripture, we learn of a resurrection of an individual unto life, and a resurrection of an individual unto damnation or condemnation. It’s differences like this that should provoke us to study the word of God and compare the things that differ so we may learn more about what God has said. The lesson on Mar 30, 2003 provides a recap of the Resurrection series and reviews the high points of the series. The belief in a resurrection was first demonstrated by Abraham in Genesis when he was asked to sacrifice his son Isaac.
Resurrection - Part 10. There are several positions taken when applying John 5:25-29 to believers. One thought is there is a resurrection of believers to life that have done good, and a resurrection of believers to damnation who have done evil. The other position does not put any believer in a position of damnation since they are made justified by Christ. Which resurrection belongs to whom? Right division teaches us to study scripture in context and compare the things that differ. John 3:16 identifies two classes of people: those who have everlasting life and those who perish.
Jesus Enters Jerusalem. The Sunday before Easter is celebrated as Palm Sunday which signifies Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The gospel of Matthew has four occurrences that tells of the suffering Jesus has to encounter leading up to the resurrection. Matthew 16:21 is the first occurrence that tells of Jesus going into Jerusalem, foretells of his suffering, his eventual death, then reveals the fact that he will rise on the third day. Each occurrence in Matthew tells something a little different about Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. The same is true in the other three gospels.
Easter Sunday. In three days time Satan was defeated when Christ Jesus rose again. The resurrection is the turning point in human history when Christ defeated Satan and death. This is the event that keeps Christianity from being a warm hearted fairy tale. Satan is still working to keep those from learning about the resurrection with the Easter Bunny and other pagan traditions. The lesson on Apr. 20, 2003 speaks to two kinds of people: The “Saints” and the “Aints”. The “Aints” need to know that Christ died for your sins and God loves you.
Christian Prayer. May 1, 2003 is recognized as the National Day of Prayer in America. What is prayer? Prayer simply stated is “talking to God”. What a privilege we have to be able to talk directly to God. We don’t have to go through an intermediary like a minister or priest because Christ paved the way through His shed blood. He became the one mediator between God and man, so the way to God is open for anyone to approach Him.
Christian Prayer - Part 2. There were many instances of prayer given this past week in America to thank God for the prosperity and blessings bestowed upon America. This was done in the celebration of the National Day of Prayer set aside on the first Thursday in May each year. This was an example of one aspect of prayer but another aspect of prayer is shown in the prayer that Paul makes in Colossians 1:9-14 for the Colossians. The Colossians (those from Colossee) received their letter from Paul through Tychius (just like Philemon).
Sarah’s Example. The first woman mentioned in the great chapter of faith (Hebrews 11:11) is Abraham’s wife Sarah. The lesson on May 11, 2003, celebrates Mother’s Day with a lesson about Sarah, the mother of Israel. There was something special about Sarah since she was identified by God in Hebrews 11:11 as a “heroine” of faith. Not only do we learn about her faith, but this lesson teaches us all about the pursuit of Godliness, which applies to both men and women. God does not expect us to live a perfect life, that’s why Christ died for our sins.
Pleroma - Part 2. The lesson on May 25, 2003 continues the lesson on the Pleroma but first remembers Memorial Day in America which is the holiday that honors America’s war casualties. A handout was given showing how many Americans have died in each war but emphasis was put on what they died for... preserving the freedoms that were endowed by our creator and embraced in the founding of America. The freedoms we possess of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (or property) truly come from God and are celebrated in the founding documents of America.
Pleroma - Part 3. When you study the “fullness”, the breadth of it covers from before the foundation of the world through the ages to come and beyond . One of the problems we have when studying “the fulness”, is we often focus on the present rather than understanding the big picture.
Father’s Day. A non-traditional Father’s Day message is in store for those who listen to the lesson on June 15, 2003. Traditional lessons would focus on the horizontal relationship fathers have or the duties they should be doing. God has given everyone the desire to succeed but work is not to become the idol of your life. It will never give you the true meaning of life. You can go through all the experiences in life and it will never give you any meaning. Solomon tells us that the things and experiences in life that people pursue is all vanity.
Pleroma - Part 4. The Pleroma = The fullness. This word is applied by Jesus in the New Testament scriptures to identify something that repairs a tear or rip in a fabric, that is subsequently filled by a patch. Pleroma fills the tear or gap. There are many “gaps” in scripture and one of the most important gaps to be understood is identified in Acts 28:28. This is when Christ reveals through the Apostle Paul the start of another gap which He calls The Mystery.
Pleroma - Part 5 . Pleroma speaks to the fullness of God. His fullness is used to fill various gaps in Adamic history as it pertains to His eternal purpose and will. One of these gaps is identified between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2.
Pleroma - Part 6. The fullness is what God will accomplish in the end times. In every administration of God, it ends in what appears to be outward failure but that is only to let you realize that God is about something else. Something better than what mankind thought at that time God could be about. This lesson contuies to study the Pleroma handout which you should download and review with all the lessons on the Pleroma. The Garden of Eden is an example of failure outwardly. Sin entered the world with the fall of Adam. Consequently, we have Adam to thank for death.
Pleroma - Part 7. The previous lesson on the Pleroma introduced us to Cheribum. This lesson studies the most famous Cheribum, Lucifer. As Ezekiel 28:14-15 (KJV) tells us “Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.” God created Lucifer as the most anointed cherub. It wasn’t until Lucifer sinned, did he become Satan.
Pleroma - Part 8. The actions of man are like building sand castles on the beach in lo tide, only to perish when the sea comes back during high tide. All that mankind does perishes just like the beautiful sand sculptures are gone. Only God creates things that last and the fullness of Christ lasts forever. Only in Christ will man find eternity. Even though the bible begins at Genesis 1:1, we know that God was there even before the beginning so Genesis 1:1 is the beginning of what God chooses to reveal to us. Lucifer was an individual that fell between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2.
Pleroma - Part 9. The study of the Pleroma, shows that God’s purpose transcends all ages and has been revealed to us through the Scriptures. Even before the foundation of the world, God prepared the way to demonstrate His fullness to principalities and powers, the manifold wisdom of God. For example, Adam was given responsibility over the garden of Eden after a cataclismic event when the original earth was under judgement from the fall of Lucifer. God then re-created the earth in 7 days demonstrating His fullness with Eden.
Pleroma - Part 10. There are two great themes in scripture. The first is the sead of the woman which is the promise of the Savior. The second is the emnity between the seed and the serpent. These go through all of scripture until the very end when Satan is chained in the bottomless pit forever. The lesson on August 31, 2003 begins with a review of these themes and how it impacted mankind from Adam on through the calling of Abraham. Abraham was called out of the nations to begin the nation of Israel who God dealt with exclusively.
Pleroma - Part 11. The Abrahamic promise is one that continues from Genesis Chapter 12 through Acts 28:28. There was 2000 years of history preceding Abraham from Genesis 1:2 up to Genesis 12:1. In those 2000 years, man demonstrated he could not consist apart from God. From Adam to Noah, to the tower of Babel, it all ended in judgment and paved the way for God to call out one man to make a nation, the nation of Israel. The lesson on September 14 covers the history of Abraham and the promises made to his seed. He gives Israel a kingdom because God promised land to Abraham.
Pleroma - Part 12. The lesson on September 21, 2003 picks up with the Times of the Gentiles study and reviews the period of the Kings in Israel. It then continues with the Birth of Christ and into the New Testament where all that was promised to Israel was in focus. The New Covenant was in scope as Israel was called upon to believe on the Messiah so the Kingdom would be restored to Israel. The kingdom that was lost when the Time of the Gentiles began was ready to be restored because of the offering of the King, Christ Jesus was at hand.
Pleroma - Part 13. The last few lessons on the Pleroma studied the time that God has established that deals with the Gentiles. This lesson continues to review the period when Israel was put in a position of “Lo-Ammi” which was at the end of Acts in AD 70. Keep in mind, God did not discard Israel, but put then on hold until He will restore them in the future to fulfill all that has been promised to them. The Mystery, God’s sacred secret, is what God revealed to the Gentiles through the Apostle Paul after Acts 28:28 when the true fulness of Christ was revealed.
The Pleroma - Part 14. The lesson on October 12, 2003 continues the lesson on the Pleroma. This lesson deals with the Headship of Christ which is located in the middle of the Pleroma chart. The head of the woman is the man, and the head of the man is Christ as stated in 1 Corinthians 11:3 (KJV) “But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.” Even Christ as the head of the body, will turn over all things back unto God the Father.
The Pleroma - Part 15. The lesson on October 19, 2003 is the final lesson on the Pleroma. Let no man beguile you with the fleshly mind that denies the truth in darkness. God tells us that he is the light and in John 1:1-12 (KJV) “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
Murmuring & Disputing. Two enemies that affect our Christian walk is murmuring and disputing. One example of this is in 1 Kings 18:17- when Elijah came up against Ahab. Elijah asked the people how long they would murmur or oscillate between two decisions. As we wrestle with the old nature, notice how often you approach a situation with murmuring and disputings, just like Israel behaved when they departed the bondage of Egypt, who after a very short time, wanted to go back into slavery instead of relying on God’s providence.
