I would like to take this space this month to pay a tribute to a great friend.

David, the second king of Israel was in a literal fight for his life. His favorite son, Absalom, had attempted to usurp David’s kingdom for his own. Absalom knew that he must kill David to do so and was in the process of hunting David down and killing him in battle. God intervened, snagged Absalom by his long hair with one of His trees, where one of David’s men killed Absalom. David was a fugitive from his own throne while Absalom was designing his demise.
The latest Pew Poll is out and again there is more falling away from the “old paths.” America has just celebrated their 233 birthday, farther removed than ever from her founding fathers. Men may debate the Christianity of our forefathers. Were they Deists or Christians, etc? What we all know and is not debatable, is that they all exhibited a tremendous amount of God-consciousness. Every where you look, you find the hand of God recognized by our forefathers. The majority of them recognized Jesus Christ as the Son of God, Who died, was buried and rose again.
Over 28 years have passed since I walked into the Big Spring Federal Prison Camp to facilitate a weekly Bible study. I was totally unprepared for what I was about to experience. Standing at a podium, lecturing on some Biblical truth was not to be. It would, indeed, be a study...sleeves rolled up; point and counterpoint; give and take; back and forth...and extremely profitable for all who weathered the first volley.
In the same vein as “The DaVinci Code,” a new movie is scheduled in theaters this month entitled “Bloodline.” “Bloodline” will seek to prove that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene and they had a son. Men just cannot tolerate a pure God, a just God or an honest God. Men want God to be limited to a God of love only and that love to be of their own definition. They want God’s love to be lax and indulgent toward sin and rebellion. They want God’s love to be void of justice and to never be absolute, only relative. Would you like God’s “take” on these things?
Much is being written and spoken today about “praise and worship.” I am bad about accepting things, especially things issuing from Christian friends and reputable Christian leaders. It usually takes some traumatic event or conflict before I research anything on my own. It is obvious that “praise and worship” means different things to different people, but it is just as obvious that everyone seems to think it involves music of some kind.
Parents never have to send a child to lying school…they never have to teach children to say “Mine!” Much effort goes into teaching children to obey, to observe correct etiquette, be polite, etc. Why is it that obedience must be taught and disobedience is just natural? Take two young children, place them in the same room with one toy and see how well they share. What we have in the life of every human being is his total depravity. All of the old saints of God knew about it and believed it. My, things are a changing!
By the time you receive this, the election will be over. Emotions will have subsided and most of us will be back in our “rut.”
The current fad among hip-hop Christendom is “reaching the youth.” Maybe we should ask ourselves, “For what purpose are we trying to reaching them?” Are we trying to get them saved? Are we trying to get their lives changed for Christ’s sake?
Is the world coming to an end in 2012?
Much ado is being made about the Mayan calendar forecasting that all human civilization dies December 21, 2012. Others have noted that the Aztec’s calendar ends in 2012. The Hindu calendar forecasts global changes in 2012 and China’s “Book of Changes” predicts the end in 2012. Lately we have some professing Christians jumping on the bandwagon and speaking of hidden prophecies in Revelation. You think maybe the motive for all of this folderol is book sales? Listen carefully. 2012 may mark the end of a lot of things, none of which will be the end of the world.
