The Barna Research Company just released the results of an ongoing study regarding American attendance to the Christian church.  Please remember that their definition of the "Christian church"  includes many non Christians by Bible standards.  Barna's Christian church includes Catholics, Protestants and other religions.

In the same vein as “The DaVinci Code,” a new movie is scheduled in theaters this month entitled “Bloodline.” “Bloodline” will seek to prove that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene and they had a son. Men just cannot tolerate a pure God, a just God or an honest God. Men want God to be limited to a God of love only and that love to be of their own definition. They want God’s love to be lax and indulgent toward sin and rebellion. They want God’s love to be void of justice and to never be absolute, only relative. Would you like God’s “take” on these things?

The Error of Easter, The Lunacy of Lent and the Fable of Good Friday.

The greatest days for church attendance each year are Christmas and Easter. Now, personally, I like these days because it reminds every person on earth that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh and died, was buried and resurrected for our sin. Everyone is reminded of these two truths twice a year. Also like the truths, there are some lies that are perpetrated at the same time.

Since the days of Cain, man has decided his own mode of worship. Cain knew what he should have done, just as Abel knew, but he chose not to bring the sacrifice that God required. When God refused his sacrifice, Cain became angry at Abel and killed him. We might sit here and think that Cain was mad at God and took out his anger on Abel and that is probably true, but the fact remains that Abel suffered at the hands of Cain. You would think that the situation would be directly between God and Cain and that Abel would not enter into the equation.

…and came trembling, and fell down…”  Acts 16:29 These words describe the Philippian jailer and his conversion before Paul and Silas.  Many of you are familiar with the story.  Paul had been arrested for casting a devil out of a young maiden who had associated herself with them.  This cost the young maiden her supernatural powers and she became a liability instead of an asset to her masters.  They went into a rage over the loss of their income, arrested, beat and imprisoned Paul and Silas, charging the jailer with their safety.

Much is being written and spoken today about “praise and worship.” I am bad about accepting things, especially things issuing from Christian friends and reputable Christian leaders. It usually takes some traumatic event or conflict before I research anything on my own. It is obvious that “praise and worship” means different things to different people, but it is just as obvious that everyone seems to think it involves music of some kind.

By the time you receive this, the election will be over. Emotions will have subsided and most of us will be back in our “rut.”

"Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men." Matthew 2:16

Herod had faked his desire to worship Jesus to the wise men (Matthew 2:8.) God knew of Herod's hatred and fear of Jesus, though only a Baby, and countered his deceit toward the Child (Matthew 2:12.)

The issue today, as was then, is not about holidays or holy days; not about commemorating Christmas or not; not about greeting people with "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays." The firestorm centers around keeping Jesus Christ alive or allowing Him killed off by His enemies. The controversy is not about a manger scene, nativity display, a star in the east or wise men bringing gifts. The issue was then and is still now, is Jesus Christ the Saviour of the world?{C}

I was thinking about the church where I was saved in 1953. We had Sunday School (Bible teaching) and a preaching service on Sunday morning. On Sunday night we had Training Union (Christian training) and a preaching service. On Wednesday night we had prayer meeting and preaching. Most everyone, children included, brought their own Bible. We could even have what they called "Responsive Reading" (a person would read a verse of scripture and the congregation would read the next verse in response.) Wouldn't that be something today?

Parents never have to send a child to lying school…they never have to teach children to say “Mine!” Much effort goes into teaching children to obey, to observe correct etiquette, be polite, etc. Why is it that obedience must be taught and disobedience is just natural? Take two young children, place them in the same room with one toy and see how well they share. What we have in the life of every human being is his total depravity. All of the old saints of God knew about it and believed it. My, things are a changing!
