Acts 29 - Part 6

The lesson on May 13, 2018 was part 6 of the "Acts 29" study.  Wayne gave us a brief review of last week but spent most of the time comparing Acts 28:25-28 KJV "25 And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers, 26 Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: 27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see...

Acts 29 - Part 5

The lesson on May 6, 2018 was part 5 of the "Acts 29" study.  Wayne having returned from the Truth for Today conference, he gave a brief recap and then continued with the Acts 29 study by looking at the word "Pragmatics" in Greek and showed how in Luke 1:1, it is has been translated to say "declaration of those things" which describe the actions of the Christ and the apostles.  It is again used in Luke 19:13 with the word "occupy".  This verse is asking the believers to do the same actions until Christ returns.  How appropriate the name of the Book of Acts is "Acts of the Apostles" because...

Acts 29 - Part 4

The lesson on April 22, 2018 was part 4 of the "Acts 29" study.  We quickly reviewed what we learned last time and then Wayne focused on the evidence of Paul's journey's between his first imprisonment and his last where he was beheaded.  This study is taking a magnifying glass to the activities of Paul from Acts 28 to the end of 2 Timothy.  Why was there an abrupt end to Acts 28 and where was the end?  When Luke recorded in Acts 28:31 that Paul was "Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him." What...

Acts 29 - Part 3

The lesson on April 15, 2018 was part 3 of the"Acts 29" study.  This week Wayne did a short review of last weeks lesson but eventually focused our attention on the codex, especially Papyrus 46.  He is reading the notes around the writing and it is the oldest manuscript that confirms Paul's writings.  Parts of the texts show Nomina sacra, which are special abbreviations which appear in New Testament texts. Unlike most...

Acts 29 - Part 2

The lesson on April 8, 2018 was part 2 of the "Acts 29" study. This week Wayne recaped the idea of studying Paul's movements after the close of Acts and in doing so following a model which may need to be updated if we find additional information to update our prior position.  Wayne displayed his previous model focusing on Acts 28:28 and the revelation of The Mystery.  In association with this belief was the term "the body of Christ" referred to us after Acts 28 and the mention of that in Corinthians was okay because they just got grafted in after Acts 28.  Wayne declared that this prior...

Passover - Easter 2018

The message on August 1, 2018 was on the Passover and was our Easter lesson for 2018.  Wayne took time to look at the Passover feast because of two main issues.  First it tells the story of how Israel was brought out of bondage from the "type of the world" which was Egypt under the blood of the Passover lamb. We learned that in Exodus 12, this feast was the beginning of the new year for Israel.  This is a great type in picture of a Christian's new life made possible by Christ and His sacrifice.  The fact that PAul still talks about Jesus the Christ which is the same before and after Acts...

Acts 29 - Part 1

The lesson on March 25, 2018 was part 1 of a new study called "Acts 29 - Paul’s latter ministries and journey(s)".  This study followed the Mid-Acts or Acts 28 study where it left us wanting to put a magnifying glass on the Acts 28 timeline because we learned that in Acts 28:30-31 that Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him, 31 Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.  When did the revelation of The Mystery occur?  This first lesson sets the...

Philemon

The lesson on March 18, 2018 was a look into the letter of Philemon.  This lesson looked at the Apostle PAul's movements after the close of Acts to determine his missionary journey to the Gentiles after his first defense with Ceaser.  PAul often in his epistles gives a lengthy saluatation and Wayne is finding these are gold when trying to pin down his movements.  We learn that Philemon was a Christian slave master and his slave Onesimus had escaped and found his way to Paul in Rome, where he was being of great to PAul and became saved himself.  PAul sent Onesimus back to Philemon so he...

Paul and Timothy

The lesson on March 11, 2018 was a message given studying Paul and Timothy.  Wayne has yet to settle on the next study so in the meantime, we are looking at the Apostle Paul when he was first accused of the Jewish leadership in Acts 24 and how they hired a professional speaker to accuse Paul of being "a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:"   We are looking at the whereabouts of Paul from Acts 24 to Ephesians 1 in the transition of Acts 28 until the revelation of the Mystery in Ephesians 3.  We...

Mid-Acts or Acts 28 - Part 13

The lesson on March 4, 2018 was part 13 of the "Mid-Acts or Acts 28?" study.  This was the final lesson in this series and Wayne provides a recap of why the scripture seems clear that the church which is His body where Christ is the head was created new after Acts 28.  When we studied the body of Christ that was formed in the Acts period, the attributes of this body have a different hope than that is defined in Ephesians.  We did learn that when PAul wrote Ephesians, God gave gifts to individuals to minister to the body of Christ who came through the Acts 28 boundary because they needed...
