The lesson on September 27, 2020 was part 15 of "John's Gospel" study. In this lesson, we learn of the three trials of Jesus and how they broke all the laws of the time, Jewish and Roman for the sake of "expediency". The lamb of God must be without blemish as he paid for our sins. The Chief Priests Annas and Caiaphas with Pilate felt it was expedient to kill Jesus for the sake of keeping the peace even though Pilate declared him an innocent man. The trial of Christ under Hebrew and Roman law was full of illegalities with high irregularities. The critical aspect of these fake trials was the outcome of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. John 18:4-19:30 covers events culminating in the death of Jesus. John 19:31-42 cover incidents leading up to his burial and John 20:1-31 express the consequences of his resurrection. This message was timely given we are seeing in America the appointment of a new Supreme Court justice who should be dedicated in upholding the law of the Constitution and not compromise the legal system like they did with the trials of Jesus Christ. The scripture reading was from John 19:19-22 KJV
"19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. 20 This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. 21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. 22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written."
