The lesson on October 18, 2020 was part 2 of the summary on "John's Gospel" study. In part two of this summary Wayne continues to share what we learned through this study in John's Gospel and it included some clarity Wayne had not seen before. He wants to clarify what are the big take away from this study. One of which is the adoption not found in John! We learned of these adoptions and how it is different than the way it is used in scripture. It means the Father has the right to declare how one might be placed to be a chief inheritor. John does not generally refer to the believer as “son”. There are several adoptions in scripture. 1) Notice that the bride is associated with New Jerusalem Gal 4:26 and Rev 21:2. 2) Flesh Rom 9:4 and 3) Spirit Gal 3:29; 4:5, 23,26 (Spiritual seed of Abraham). There are three callings in scripture: 1) The elect nation - “peculiar people”. 2) The elect remnant - “The Bride”. 3) The one body - “peculiar people”. We learned that there is a timeline connection to Messiah as Bridegroom from Matthew 22:1-6 KJV where John's Gospel is the Guest ministry! The scripture reading was from John 21:18-22 KJV
"18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not. 19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me. 20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? 21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? 22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me."
