Independence Day Commentary. July 4th in America celebrates the 227th anniversary of independence. No other country has held a single form of government for so long yet America’s christian-based republic is under attack by the spiritual decay of the American people. The founders of America based their government on scripture and finally gave God the credit for founding the country.

America’s Founders and Nature’s God. The Declaration of Independence of the United States of America acknowledges faith towards a supreme God who created mankind. The Declaration also acknowledges by all who signed it, the laws of God, the providence of God, and the judgment of God. The Declaration also appeals to God as the Supreme Judge of the world for their intentions. Furthermore, for the support of this Declaration, the signers relied firmly on the protection of Divine Providence. The Lesson on 07-07-2002 teaches on the connection between scripture and our founding documents.

“Under God”, Under Attack. This week America will celebrate the 226th anniversary of its independence from England. Most of the celebrations will involve sporting events like baseball where it’s required that the crowd honor America by singing the National Anthem as the Flag of the United States is raised in all its glory. Another uniquely American tradition that involves the flag has been the Pledge of Allegiance. The history behind the Pledge involves the addition in 1954 of the words “under God” describing America’s belief in God.

Freedom in Christ. July 4th was the celebration of Independence day in America honoring the 225th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence declaring freedom from England. Just as this day was set aside to celebrate America’s national freedoms, the Christian should set aside time to recognize the freedom we have in Christ Jesus. The lesson on 07-08 teaches from Acts 16:6-10. The book of Acts is as much about the Acts of the Holy Spirit as it is the Acts of the Apostles. What are the differences between the activity of the Holy Spirit in Acts compared to today?

Derek McCammon gave a special 4th of July message on July 2nd. His lesson celebrated America’s 224th birthday and asks the question “Is America growing closer or farther to God?” Listen to his lesson on 07-02 and hear what the scriptures say.

The lesson on July 4, 2010 was in celebration of the United States Independence holiday.  The scripture reading was in Psalms 33:6-12 KJV "6 By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. 7 He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. 9 For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.

The First Labor Day. September 6, 2004 is the annual Labor Day celebration in America. This day is set aside as a holiday to celebrate the American worker. It’s typically a day filled with joy because everyone is off work and enjoying the start of American football season. However, if you look at labor from a biblical perspective, you find that the first labor day could be traced back to the Garden of Eden. Here is where sin entered the world and therefore two aspects of labor were introduced. First, a woman’s labor with child birth was now going to hurt.

All Truth - Part 2. The lesson on February 8, 2004 is the second studying the idea of All Truth. All Truth incorporates the last body of truth that was given in scripture. The Apostle Paul was selected to reveal The Mystery that was not hidden in Old Testament scriptures but hidden in God before the foundation of the world. Christ promised that the Holy Spirit would lead us into all truth yet any promises given during the Gospels or Acts period are based in Old Testament truth’s. When you become a Christian, you don’t automatically know all truth.
