Galatians

Wayne StewartThe Galatians Study, started on April 21, 2013, is a follow up to the ABC's of Right Division taught by Wayne Stewart and takes a verse by verse look at the book of Galatians.  Using the foundations taught from his previous study, Wayne looks at teaching Galatians rightly divided.  This book was written by the Apostle Paul in his first ministry and is defending his Apostleship and the message of salvation by grace during the book of Acts with the churches in Galatia.  This study will teach us Galatians from the context of Paul's teaching through the book of Acts.

Lessons

The lesson on May 26, 2013 continued the "Galatians" study with part 6 but first paid homage to those that died in the Moore, Oklahoma May 20, 2013 tornado.  It also was Memorial Day weekend so mention was given to honor those who have died for the United States of America. In chapter two, we learn by understanding why Paul is addressing Peter in regards to salvation by grace.  Paul is admonishing Peter that his walk be consitent with his witness to the Jew and not impose that on the Gentile. The Jews and Gentiles are saved by grace but the Jews were given the covenants and were asked to walk according to the law. The Gentile was now justified by grace, not the law. As a matter of fact, Paul is saying the Jew also, because works through the law won't get you saved.  The scripture reading was from Galatians 2:15-20 KJV

The lesson on June 2, 2013 was part 7 of the "Galatians" study. This lesson provides a review of the two issues discussed in Part 6, which are 1) The Faith of Christ, and 2) the Transgression (which Paul was discussing becoming a transgressor in Galatians 2:8 if he taught the things which he previously destroyed).  The Jews were not to build the thing which Paul destroyed.  The Jews were replacing the grace of God with something that came from the law and this was the transgression.  The lesson continued with the scripture reading which was from Galatians 2:21-3:7 KJV "21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? {C}{C}{C}

The lesson on June 9, 2013 was part 8 of the "Galatians" study and is in chapter 3.  Initially, the lesson reviewed the "faith of Christ" versus our "faith in Christ" as the primary source of failth for our salvation.  The Faith of Christ was constant, He never waivered all the way to the cross.  Our failth may waiver at times even though we may not admit it, it is always changing.  If we were to rest on our own personal faith for justification, it would be a terrible thing.  The faith of Christ is rock solid and is what our justification is based on.  A comparison between the Acts period basis versus the post Acts period basis explains how our basis has changed.  If you have your faith built on the wrong basis it will eventually impact your walk and those Christians have to change the scriptures to make things fit.  An analogy was used from the movie the Matrix.  Christianity has taken the blue pill, whereby they are living in a dream world with the wrong basis.  The red pill, once taken, opens your eyes to the current basis.  The scripture reading was in Romans 4:8-14 KJV

The lesson on June 16, 2013 continued the study in "Galatians" with part 9 and covers chapter 3 verses 15-20.  This passage is exciting to study because there are some challenges to understand what is being said regarding the addition of the law to the promises.  We learn about mans covenant in regards to a Jew.  We learn about the time frame reference of 400 years and 430 years (which was from the promise made to Abram and the Exodus out of Egypt). We also learn what the meaning of verse 20 where Paul speaks of... "a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one". The scripture reading was from Hebrews 12:18-20 KJV

The lesson on June 23, 2013 was part 10 of the "Galatians" study.  Chapter 3 is covered, particlarly the part where Paul declares to the foolish Galatians that they should learn the understanding that salvation is by faith and not by the works of the law.  We also learn that when God gave the promise to Abraham, it was declared to him when Abraham was under a deep sleep.  Consequently, there was no mediator involved because God declared his program to Abraham.  It was a one way discussion.  We learn how algebraic math demonstrates that the addition in this passage speaks about law being added to the ten commandments. The scripture reading was from Galatians 3:19-23 KJV
