Joseph F. “Joe” Russell, Jr., was born in Dixie, Oklahoma on August 5th, 1925 and went home to be with the Lord on March 13, 2004. Joe lived in the Oklahoma City area working in the insurance industry, starting his own business as an independent insurance broker in 1972, and worked until his death. Joe touched many lives with his optimism, his ready smile and genuine interest in the lives of those around him. He developed a special bond with his clients that made them far more than business acquaintances.

Joe’s greatest treasure was his personal relationship with Christ Jesus. He loved sharing the word of God with others, and spent his life teaching and attending Bible studies across the City. Joe was a member of Northside Bible Church and served as Elder, Treasurer, and Sunday School teacher. Joe was also an integral part of the LOOPS ministry with his dear friends Leland and Linda Maples.

Lessons by Joe Russell

Above All, Faith. Ephesians 6:16 (KJV) says “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” Paul tells us that above all, we are to use the shield of faith to stand against the wiles of the Devil. To the mature Christian, the importance of faith is most assuredly known. Yet the new creature in Christ needs to be built up in a faith that is most holy.

Proverbs - The Wisdom of Solomon. The book of Proverbs is one that is a continuous treasury of wisdom. No matter how many times you read the 31 chapters, there is always something new that jumps out and gets your attention. There may be times when you wonder what Solomon was trying to get across. Many books have been written to that end. There is one in particular that serves as a good study aide when reading Proverbs.

A Psalms 106 perspective on today. Psalms 106 is a passage that recaps much of the nation of Israels failure to stick with God’s plan and take matters into their own hands. Often this course of action provoked God to anger and often wrath on their nation. As you read this passage today, much of the same thoughts apply to the American demise. Although God does not deal with America as a nation like He did with Israel, many principles still apply to a nation when they pursue those things which please God vs. provoke Him to wrath.
