The Person of Christ

Since the days of Cain, man has decided his own mode of worship. Cain knew what he should have done, just as Abel knew, but he chose not to bring the sacrifice that God required. When God refused his sacrifice, Cain became angry at Abel and killed him. We might sit here and think that Cain was mad at God and took out his anger on Abel and that is probably true, but the fact remains that Abel suffered at the hands of Cain. You would think that the situation would be directly between God and Cain and that Abel would not enter into the equation. What difference should Abel’s actions make to Cain? God gave Cain an opportunity to get it right and he refused (Genesis 4:1-8.) Cain killed Abel for no other reason than Abel believed and obeyed God. Jesus phrased the situation this way:

“If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. [19] If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” John 15:18-19

The issue revolves around Jesus Christ; not a denomination, religion or lifestyles. This issue confronts all; from preachers to perverts.

Rick Warren, pastor of the huge Saddleback Church is quoted at the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, May 23, 2005, “The word ‘fundamentalist’ actually comes from a document in the 1920s called the Five Fundamentals of Faith. And it is a very legalistic, narrow view of Christianity.”

Below are the Five Fundamentals of Faith which anyone can Google up and read all about them.

  1. The Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:1; John 20:28; Hebrews 1:8-9.)
  2. The Virgin Birth (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:27.)
  3. The Blood Atonement (Acts 20:28; Romans 3:25, 5:9; Ephesians 1:7; Hebrews 9:12-14.)
  4. The Bodily Resurrection (Luke 24:36-46; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, 15:14-15).
  5. The inerrancy of the scriptures themselves (Psalms 12:6-7; Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20.)

Tell me, pray tell, what kind of a Christian would have any problem with these?

You will notice that each of the five refers to the incarnate Word or the written word. It is all about Jesus Christ. By the way, if He wants to be narrow and legalistic, He has the right, He owns it all (Colossians 1:16.)

Now let me take you to the other end of the spectrum. “Easter Sunday in San Francisco’s Delores Park, Christianity spoofing homosexual drag queen “nuns” calling themselves the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence”…staged their annual “Hunky Jesus” contest–mocking the Saviour of the world, Jesus Christ—as shirtless men in “crucifixion” costumes parade(d) on stage in an atmosphere of haughty, homoerotic humor.” (Christian Newswire)

Do you think this would happen during Ramadan mocking Mohammad? Do you think this would have happened twenty years ago? Do you think that anyone who had any respect for Jesus Christ would do such a thing?

The issue has always been, is now and will continue to be:

“…What think ye of Christ? whose son is He?… Matthew 22:42

The issue centers around one Person, Jesus Christ, Who died for our sins according the scripture, was buried and rose again according to the scripture. It has nothing to do with world peace, global warming, tolerance toward others, one’s self-esteem or how well you get along with others. It doesn’t even have anything to do with good government, the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, the Sermon on the Mount or forgiving your enemies.

The difference between heaven and hell is the same; regardless of your religion, belief, opinion or advanced knowledge. It makes no difference whether you profess to be Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, atheist, deist or Christian.

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” John 3:36

Ignoring this truth won’t change it. Debating this truth won’t change it. Not believing this truth won’t change it. Scoffing at this truth won’t change it.

Some men are trying to reinvent the message and some are trying to reinvent the methods, but scripture says:

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” Hebrews 13:8

Since the time that both Jews and Gentiles conspired to hang Him on a cross, we have not seen such animosity toward the Person of Jesus Christ; by the religious and the non-religious, the moral and the immoral and the liberal and conservative.

“He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? [16] And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. [17] And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 16:15-17

Paul had done great evangelist work in the area of Galatia and then watched in tears as many turned to “another gospel,” (another Jesus) Galatians 1:6-9.

As Paul presented his argument regarding Christ and His gospel, he asked the Galatians:

“Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?” Galatians 4:16

Where is your faith?
