Father’s Day. The lesson on June 21, 2009 was given on Father’s Day and the scripture reading was in Matthew 7:21-29. The only time you like to get older is when you are a kid. If you less than ten years old, you are so excited to get older so you think in fractions. When asked how old you are, you answer 4 and 1/2. You’re never 36 and 1/2. When you get into your teens, they can’t hold you back… When asked how old you are, you answer “I’m going to be sixteen.” Then the great day of you life occurs when you turn 21. Even the word sounds like a ceremony. Then you turn 30. What happened? You sound like you are describing bad milk… when you turned 30. Then you’re pushing 40. What about reaching 50? You make it to 60… and by then you have built up so much speed you hit 70. And after that it is a day by day thing… You hit Wednesday, then you hit Thursday.. . and finally you’ve hit the weekend. When you make into your 80’s, you hit lunch, then you hit 4:30… At this age you won’t by green bananas because it’s viewed as a long term investment. If you hit 90, you start going backwards… “Well I was 92.. .” If you make it over 100 you become a kid again… “Well, I’m 100 and 1/2”. Happy Father’s Day to all you dad’s who are getting older and grayer. In the scripture reading, Matthew 7:21-22 says “ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?” You ever ask yourself what is the will of the Father? What is it God wants me to do? Not only should we want to know the will of the Father but the work as well. Jesus gives us a great example of doing the works of God in John 6:28-29 “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” Paul wrote n Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” As boys grow and become husbands then fathers, Psalms 119:9-11 shows they way to grow in the will of the Father “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” The lesson included a video from the Donna Reed show when Paul Peterson sang the song called “My Dad”.
