The Importance of the Name of God. Christmas is over but New Years is next. Do you want to make New Year’s resolutions? Go ahead and make them even though the prospects for 2009 don’t look good. America is in a recession and the economic outlook is poor. Things can really get bad. No matter how bad it gets, the worse of it all is taking your last breath without knowing the Lord Jesus Christ and believing on his name. What’s in a name? Much, as it says in Philippians 2:9-11 ”Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Jesus never went to college, he never wrote a book, he never held a public office nor did he do any of the things that make someone important today but Jesus Christ is the most important man that has ever been, past, present, and future. Throngs of people followed him and the only credentials he had was who he was. We divide time by Him with B.C.(Before Christ) and A.D. (After Death). The centuries were framed by him. Our calendars are divided into two areas of history because of him. One day every week is set aside for remembrance of him. And the two most important holidays celebrated worldwide is Christmas and Easter which is about his birth and resurrection. And on steeples on churches around the world the cross has become the symbol for victory over sin and death. He never wrote a song or painted a picture. He never composed a poem and yet more songs have been written about him, more artwork, more paintings, and more poems have been written about him than anyone else in history. Thousands of hospitals, orphanages, and colleges and other institutions have been founded in honor of this one who gave his life for us. No one in history has impacted the world more that this man and God gave him a name which is above every name. Click here to listen to the lesson given on December 28, 2008.
