Independence Day. The lesson on July 2, 2006 celebrates Independence Day in America which is the 230th anniversary of this country declaring independence from the British crown. The Declaration has five parts and is summarized with these last words: “And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.” The 56 men that signed this document did just that. There are not men of this caliber today because people have a different mindset from today’s world. There is a since of going so far but stops when it involves their own possessions. We are taught in Matthew 6:19-21(KJV) ”Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” The Bible was quoted more often than any other book by the founding fathers.
