The lesson on October 19, 2014 was part 5 of the “First Corinthians” study and finished chapter one.   Recapping the previous week, this lesson opened up with a review of the divisions that Paul was disbanding in the promotion of the gospel of Christ, which was not baptism.  The study this week looked at the activities of the Apostle Paul and considered the thought that if Paul is the apostle to the Gentiles, suggesting that Christians speak in tongues because Paul spoke in tongues.  The problem with this logic is that the book of Acts ends and Paul then receives a new message that changes the way we should walk.  Right division of scriptures means that you must look at the progressive revelation of truth and PAul was given the last body of truth called “The Mystery” where PAul explains it was a secret God held with himself from before the foundation of the world.  No where in scripture was this body of truth hidden.  This lesson looks at the wisdom that is discussed in First Corinthians where the gospel of Christ confounds mans wisdom.  We looked at the quote that was taken from Isaiah 29 where Israel had two groups, learned and not learned.  God’s word had none effect because neither group was not getting scripture but was following the precepts of men.  This is a phenomenon that is now happening in Christianity today.  The scripture reading was from 1 Corinthians 1:19-23 KJV

“19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?  21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;”
