Christmas Again

“But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.” Galatians 4:4-5

What a great time of the year. With all the trouble in the Middle East, Bethlehem will still be astir with visitors visiting the place of Christ’s birth. The entire world, whether Christian or not, is aware of the One born there. This is not so with Mohammed or Buddha. There is no other person on which such accolades are placed as on the One born in a manger in Bethlehem, Jesus Christ. We may try to confuse the issue with Santa Claus, Saint Nicholas or Kris Kringle, but the fact remains that the news of Jesus Christ is spread abroad each year.

Notice that Paul said “when the fullness of time was come…” At the right time, at the exact time, not too early or too late, God Almighty sent His only begotten Son to earth. Herod tried to get rid of Him. Satan has been trying get rid of Him ever since, but He won’t go away. In our modern times of pseudo wisdom and sophistication, men are trying to ban Him from society. In our American school system which was developed to teach children to read the Bible, we don’t want Him mentioned. Children are forbidden to talk about Him, wear t-shirts with His Name on them or even crosses, symbolizing His death. It is alright to speak of Allah, learn yoga at the YMCA or practice some Hindu chant, but don’t mention Jesus. Down with Him! You know what, if He were here today, people couldn’t crucify Him fast enough! The ACLU would challenge His right to exist. The liberal would want to charge Him with hate crimes. The socialist would be offended that He didn’t feed the multitudes every meal!

He never hurt anyone, He never mistreated anyone and He never spoke behind people’s backs. He gave sight to the blind and hearing to the deaf. He raised the dead and fed the hungry, yet man hated Him. His ministry only lasted three and one-half years, shorter than one presidential term in America. He never traveled more than a hundred miles from His birthplace; never wrote a book, never attended a university and never held a public office.

He spoke of charity and love; He was honest and forthright in His speaking. He extolled justice, mercy and grace. It was for these very principles that caused the phony to hate him. He pointed out that murder begins with hate, that adultery begins with lust and that theft begins with covetousness. It was His revealing of men’s motives that caused the religious crowd to gnash their teeth at Him and shout loudly, “Crucify Him, crucify Him” (Luke 23:21.)

If you want a glimpse into the heart of men, go to Calvary, where the Just was crucified by the unjust. Calvary…where people with education, sophistication, high morals and religious principles spat on God’s Son, cursed Him, slapped Him and ridiculed Him for telling the truth!

It is an unbelievable phenomena that twice a year, worldwide, Christ’s birth and resurrection are recognized by men whether they believe it or not.

Our verse in Galatians 4 also brings out another fact about Christ. All time is dated in regard to Jesus Christ. Do you realize that every time you date a check, make out a deposit, send a post card, a letter or any other document, you are recognizing Jesus Christ. Most are familiar that B.C. means before Christ, but may not be familiar that A.D. (Anno Domini) means “the year of our Lord.”

America was founded by God fearing men. It was a young nation that became the richest and most powerful nation on earth. Everywhere you look, you see evidence of God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.

Moses is shown holding the Ten Commandments on the Supreme Court building. The doors entering the Supreme Court’s courtroom have the Ten Commandments engraved on them. The wall above, where the Supreme Court judges sit, display the Ten Commandments. There are scripture verses etched in stone all over the Federal Buildings and monuments in Washington, D.C. With such evidence about our heritage, why would anyone protest scripture or Jesus Christ being discussed?

It is the same old song and dance:

“But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.” Luke 19:14

This same Jesus that was born in manger, despised by men and hung on a cross, will soon return, not as a baby, not as a martyr, not as a teacher, but as the Judge of all men (John 5:22, 27.)

God sent Christ to the right place at the right time to offer salvation unto all men.

“He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” John 1:11-12

Guess what? He never let man be ignorant of it. That time is here again. Have a very merry Christmas. Keep Looking Up! Leland Maples
