Family Influence and Tradition. The lesson on October 26, 2003 has Clark Curry sharing the influence of good family tradition in our lives as Christians. His grandfathers favorite verse was in Philippians 4:13 (KJV) “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” The impact of family in our lives is so important to the proper growth of a Christian. The verse in Proverbs 22:28 (KJV) says “Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.” As we learn in Hebrews 5:12-14 (KJV) “For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” The word of God starts in the home and is where the respect of its authority is established. Unfortunately, the respect for scripture is no longer present in our culture today. Whether it’s involving topics like homosexuality or abortion, modern day culture has abandoned the word of God as guidance into what should be considered sinful behavior. Even as Paul warns us in 2 Timothy 3:1-9 (KJV) “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” Listen to this lesson and hear how it all starts at home.
