The Crucifixion of Christ – On Palm Sunday we celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, the week before his death and resurrection. Scripture reveals that when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the Jews greeted him with waving palm branches, and by covering his path with palm branches. Immediately following this great time of celebration in the ministry of Jesus, he begins his journey to the cross. You will find the scriptures regarding Palm Sunday in Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:28-44; and John 12:12-19. The lesson on April 5, 2009 specifically looked at what Christ did for us by shedding his blood on the cross. We learn of the life we have in Christ from Philippians, but the primary scriptures covered is in John 19. Jesus died spiritually and physically on the cross. In John 19:30 it says “When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” Then in verses 33-34 it says “But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.” This lesson talks about the “blood” of Christ and how that applies in the forgiveness of your sins. This is a great lesson to listen to for gaining an understanding of the operation of God that was achieved in the crucifixion of Christ.
