Lessons

The lesson taught on June 2, 2024 was part 30 of the “Wisdom” study.  As usual, Wayne reviewed what we had learned in the previous lesson, and then proceeded to Proverbs 29. In this chapter, we learned about the stubborn nature of man in that when he is reproved, he stiffens his neck.  In doing so, he is suddenly destroyed without remedy.  The word “remedy” in Hebrew is מַרְפֵּֽא׃ or “marpay”. That word appears in these passages (2 Chr. 21:18; 36:16; Prov. 4:22; 6:15; 12:18; 13:17; 14:30; 15:4; 16:24; 29:1; Eccl. 10:4; Jer. 8:15; 14:19; 33:6; Mal. 3:20)  A majority of them are in Proverbs so we took time to look at all of them.  Wisdom is associated with healthy scripture, or sound words.  Jesus Christ is known as the “great physician”. In Matt. 11:2-5 (KJV) Jesus said to tell John the Baptist, who was in prison, to witness to him all the things that he had done… blind receiving site, lame walking, lepers being cleansed, deaf hearing, and dead rising up.  Paul often wrote of using the form of sound words in 2 Timothy 1:13 (KJV) “Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.”  We need to be healthy by understanding scripture, rightly divided.

The scripture reading was from 2 Timothy 2:1-10 KJV “1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. 3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully. 6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits. 7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. 8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: 9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound. 10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.”
