The Name of God. In Psalms 103:1 (KJV) it says “Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.” There is something special about the name of God. When God decided to give man 10 commandments, when He got to the third one, He said not to take His name in vain. That’s how important God’s name is to Him. In Matthew 1:18-25 we read of the birth of Christ “But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” Emmanuel is such a great name because it means “With us is God”. God became a man to save us from our sins. We read in Exodus 3:13-14 that Moses wanted to tell Israel God’s name “And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.” When Moses was in front Pharaoh in Exodus 9:16 he said “And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.” In Isaiah 42:8 we read “I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.” See how important God’s name is to Him?
